ON THE COVER
This female patient has metastatic breast cancer to the liver and receives therapeutic paracentesis weekly. The diffuse peripheral decreased activity within the abdomen is consistent with ascites. Prominent increased activity within the portal vein suggests sequela of portal hypertension. No active gastrointestinal bleeding is seen on the scan. Generally, physicians look for hot intensities that move and become more intense over time and are away from the normal blood supply to the abdomen. (Image courtesy of Mary E. Garlo, CNMT, NCT, and Mercy Medical Center, Springfield, Massachusetts.)
