Primary effects of cannabis on human body. Principal phytocannabinoids (tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol) interact primarily with CB1 and CB2 receptors found in brain and gastrointestinal tract. These receptors, combined with endocannabinoids, define endocannabinoid system, which mediates complex bidirectional interactions among gut, brain, and microbiome (43–46).
