Representatives of the Board of the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology will conduct a workshop, Tuesday, June 21, 2005, during the annual meeting of the Society of Nuclear Medicine. The meeting will be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

FAQs About Nuclear Medicine Technology Programs

Q: How many nuclear medicine technology programs are accredited by the JRCNMT?

A: There are 100 JRCNMT accredited nuclear medicine technology programs. These programs have:

  • 810 major clinical affiliates

  • 51 minor clinical affiliates

  • 43 academic affiliates

  • 118 clinical affiliates, pending approval

Q: What type of degree is awarded by these programs?

A: The accredited programs offer the following types of degrees:

  • Certificate only, 43 programs

  • Associate only, 15 programs

  • Baccalaureate only, 14 programs

  • Certificate or associate, 10 programs

  • Certificate or baccalaureate, 17 programs

  • Certificate, associate or baccalaureate, 1 program

Q: Are there any new programs seeking initial accreditation?

A: Currently, there are three programs nearing completion of the application for initial accreditation. There are five programs in the planning stages.

Q: What type of degree qualifications do the program directors have?

A: In addition to being certified nuclear medicine technologists, program directors possess the following educational qualifications:

  • Certificates, 3 program directors

  • Associate degrees, 4 program directors

  • Baccalaureate degrees, 38 program directors

  • Master’s degrees, 45 program directors

  • Doctorate degrees, 11 program directors

Programs Undergoing Review for Continued Accreditation in 2005

The Review Committee will schedule site visits to the following nuclear medicine technology programs seeking continued accreditation during 2005. Written third party testimony may be submitted regarding any nuclear medicine technology program undergoing review. Persons desiring to present third-party oral testimony must submit a written request. Third-party testimony, written and oral, must be limited to the educational program’s compliance with the Essentials and Guidelines for an Accredited Educational Program for the Nuclear Medicine Technologist.

  • Hillsborough Community College, Tampa, FL

  • College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, IL

  • Delgado Community College, New Orleans, LA

  • Springfield Technical Community College, Springfield, MA

  • St. Vincent’s Hospital & Medical Center, New York, NY

  • Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute, Hudson, NC

  • Forsyth Community College, Winston-Salem, NC

  • Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI

  • Amarillo College, Amarillo, TX

  • University of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio, TX
