This is the last issue from my first year as editor of the Journal of Nuclear Medicine Technology. In all things, we learn from experience, and that has certainly been the case here. I have definitely learned that there is a lot of paperwork involved with producing even a quarterly journal such as JNMT. And I have learned that as editor, I must rely very heavily on the efforts of the editorial board, the reviewers, and last but not least, the authors. Each of these individuals must get work to me in a timely manner so that you receive your issue on time. I particularly want to mention four individuals for their contributions: John Keyes, Jr., MD, and Frederic H. Fahey, DSc, who have given me their time and sage advice both graciously and conscientiously; Elpida Crawford, who is responsible for recruiting all of the continuing education articles; and Ann Steves, who checks every reference published in JNMT. I extend heartfelt thanks to the following individuals for their contributions during the last year.

I particularly wish to thank Kira Mayrides for her excellent work and helpful advice as managing editor. Kira and I started at about the same time last year, and we have learned a lot together, but I definitely learned more from her than she did from me. It is from her efforts that JNMT actually comes out on time and in a readable form.
I would be remiss if I did not extend special thanks to the authors who have submitted papers in this last year. Without their contributions, we would not have a journal. This month I will be asking the editorial board to select the outstanding paper for the year 2001. The winners will be announced at the annual meeting in Los Angeles. The first-place winner will receive a $500 award. The authors of the top three papers will receive a plaque.
As you read the table of contents page, you will notice that the address for JNMT has changed from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center to the Society of Nuclear Medicine office in Reston, VA. This change was precipitated by my change of employment from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. The publications department, in particular Tina Paxton, will assume the responsibility of processing all new manuscripts and sending them to the reviewers. This may, at first glance, appear to make the processing of manuscripts take longer, but I think in the long run it will make JNMT run more efficiently.
This has been a year of great tragedy for all of us in the United States. These events, and those in my own life, have caused me to reflect and be thankful for what I have. I wish each of you a happy holiday and a happy, safe, and healthy New Year.
