The Role of Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography/Computed Tomography in Benign and Malignant Bone Disease
Section snippets
Physiological Tracer Uptake
In general, whole-body scans are used for bone scintigraphy, which permit the assessment of the overall distribution of the radiopharmaceutical. Both anterior and posterior studies are reviewed in parallel comparing any alteration, and noting eventual asymmetries on both sides of the midline. The evaluation of symmetry is of great importance implying optimal positioning of the patient before starting the study. Some sources of error do exist that have to be considered, such as increased uptake

2021, Information FusionCitation Excerpt :The imaging mechanisms of medical images in different modalities are diverse, and their emphasis on describing the body information is also different [26,34]. Common medical modalities include the computerized tomography (CT) [133], magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) [134], positron emission tomography (PET) [135], single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) [136] and ultrasound [137]. Among them, some modalities focus on describing the structure of organs and tissues, while others focus on describing the intensity of regional metabolism.
