AB Objective: PET isotopes are being used more commonly in nuclear medicine. This paper introduces the nuclear medicine technologist to the use of PET imaging. The major focus of this article is on the isotopes that are used in this modality and how they differ from traditional isotopes. The nuclear medicine technologist will become familiar with PET isotopes by reading about PET history, the production and availability of PET isotopes, and the use of this modality in a traditional hospital setting.
