Nucl. Med. Technol.1980 Jun 01; 8 AB - Those of us who are actively engaged in handling and manipulation of radioactivity in either solid, liquid, or gaseous forms must strive constantly to maintain the delicate balance between providing maximum efficiency and preventing error. Technologists who work in the nuclear medicine laboratory preparing doses, assaying samples, or doing RIA procedures should not concentrate only on accident prevention but should know also the procedures to be followed in the event of a radiation spill in their laboratory. We review and discuss six aspects directly related to radiation spills and suggest appropriate actions that could be taken should an accident occur.
