AB A patient with an elevated hematocrit was referred to the clinical nuclear medicine laboratory for evaluation of possible polycythemia. A 51Cr red blood cell mass measurement was performed. Multiple postinjection samples proved to be necessary for precise determination of the red blood cell mass by the 51Cr radioisotope dilution technique.
